Smaug Bard sitting one

Sitting one done. 6 hours of line work and shading. If your ever getting work done that requires an extended sitting drink a ton of water, and not a moron like me.

The upper arm will be done first, the concept was originally drawn by my wife ([link]. The positioning of Smaug was the hardest part of the design, trying to show his size without having to scale down the other elements. I also struggled with wanting to show the missing scale in his chest or focusing on the confrontation between the dragon and the bowman. Around the forearm is Bard on the burning docks of Esgaroth heavily inspired by the amazingly talented Jared Shears ([link]. Of all the artwork of this scene Jared’s painting represents the (to me) most heroic character in the book and how I picture the Desolation of Smaug scene unfolding. The main reasons I am moving forward with this now is that I want to get the work done with how I picture it from the books and artwork before the movies are released and my vision is altered by Peter Jackson's vision.

The artist doing the work is Devin Stacey from Vancouver BC, He took the rough concept work and ideas I had in mind and turned them into something amazing.
